Plateaus, breaking them, changing goals, and doing some research

Goal Weight: 75kg
Current Weight: 86.0
Started my journey 01/09/14 - 27kg lost

Finally, a decent loss! 700gms gone, and I'm hoping that signals the end of my plateau. It's taken me 7 weeks to lose 2kg, and 4 weeks to lose 500gms of that! So here's hoping I can get back to some regular losses.

Plateaus are a biarch. But almost everyone trying to lose a decent amount of weight will experience one at least. They are incredibly frustrating, and you really have to shock your body out of it. Either with a totally different, "I'm going to die" exercise week, or a massive switch up in foods. I had a VLCD (500 cals) this week and I think that is what got me kick started again.

I am, by no means, a fan of Very Low Calorie Diets. I don't think they are sustainable, and maintenance would seem impossible to me. I am, however, researching the 5:2 diet. I know some people who are fans of it, and after having my first ever 500 cal day on Saturday, I think doing it twice a week would actually be ok. My main challenge would be to not go crazy on the other 5 days!

So I'll do some more research (more than happy to hear any feedback if you want to share) and see if I can do 2 days this week at 500 cals.

I've also been doing some Monday Morning soul-searching (ruh-roh), and I'm changing my goal weight. The lowest I have recorded as an adult is 78kg. I set my goal this time to 73, because it takes me to 40kg lost and that sounds impressive. But that's a dumb reason to set it as my goal! I've decided to set my goal at 75 for now. When I get there I'll see how I feel, and maybe try maintenance for a bit. Depending on what calculator I use, 75 is either just over, or just under healthy BMI, but I think it's a load of BS anyway.

So, 75kg is my goal, 27kg down, 11kg to go.....

Goals this week are:
5 workouts
Keep the bread to a minimum
2 x 500 cal days

Next Mini Goal: 25% - 1.3kg to go!

Sunday 20 September 2015

Today's the day I draw a line and start fresh (for the 10 millionth time)

Goal Weight: 73kg
Current Weight: 86.7
Started my journey 01/09/14 - 26.5kg lost

So I finally decided to properly weigh in, record it, and move forward. The bad news is I have gained 200gms since my last official weigh in. The good news is it's only 200gms, I'm waaaay down from where I was less than a week ago.

Some friends and I have started a Christmas challenge today! There's 13 weigh ins before Christmas day, and I'm aiming to lose 10kg by then (or as close as I can possibly get). I've armed myself with healthy snacks, water, herbal tea and an exercise plan. I've taken new photos, done my measurements, and drawn a line in the sand (ok, so that last one I haven't LITERALLY done - it's too cold to go to the beach!).

The photo here is my 6 weeks progress. Only 1.1kg lost, but a few centimetres here and there. I can't see much difference but others have said they can.

So, today I am 86.7. In 13 weeks I will be at least under 80kg, but ideally 76.7kg. I have plenty of motivation to get there, so I'm going to list them here so I can look back on bad days!

1 - 76.7 will be the lowest I have ever officially weighed as an adult
2 - The final weigh in is the day before we go on holiday to somewhere quite warm - imagine how awesome it will be to wear cute dresses and shorts in the super hot weather!
3 - I will have lost over 36kg!!
4 - My in-laws will be wowed at how much weight I've lost since they last saw me (July)
5 - I'll only have 3.7kg to my ultimate goal
6 - I am meeting my husbands best friend for the first time ever - I want to look awesome for that
7 - I can wear my old size 10 skinny jeans (currently a 14, but they are getting looser)

Goals this week are:
5 workouts
Keep the bread to a minimum
Cut out the coke zero (been a bit naughty with that lately)

Next Mini Goal: Conception Weight - 0.7kg to go!

My goal, my motivation and my mindset reset

Goal Weight: 73kg
Current Weight: 86.5
Started my journey 01/09/14 - 26.5kg lost

Just as I get the new motivation and mindset going, AF decides to ruin my life! Ok, slight exaggeration, but she really does throw a spanner in the works. So I decided not to step on the scales this morning. I'm having a "no weigh" week - because I honestly think it would do me more harm than good to see that number.

You see, weight loss is 90% mental. And if I see this big increase on the scales when I know I've been good, I'll slip in to a massive funk. The little part in the back of brain saying "AF is here, that gain is pretty much ALL water" gets drowned out by the massive sense of failure.

It's a dumb mindset, and something I have tried for years to overcome. So the measure I am taking this week, is to avoid the scale. What harm can that possibly do? Will one week of not weighing in cause me to put 26kg back on? Will it derail my entire journey and undo all of my hard work? NO IT WILL NOT.  Because it is only 1 week, and I will not let it throw me off.

I have set a wee goal of losing 10kg by Christmas (starting with next week's weigh in haha), to keep me motivated. We are going on holiday for 12 days, and it will be hot. And I'm NOT hiding in the corner in 3/4 jeans and t-shirts, I want to wear cute summer dresses (see pic), and lay out in my togs (my inner fat girl is already scoffing at me). I want to run around with my kids without my thighs trying to spark a fire. I want to *gasp* enjoy summer!

So there we go. My goal, my motivation, and my mindset re-set are all there.

Actions are stronger than words, so time to get this butt moving!!

A much better result this week!

Goal Weight: 73kg
Current Weight: 86.5
Started my journey 01/09/14 - 26.5kg lost

Argh, damn computer just deleted my post!

Much better week this week, with a loss of 800gms. Would have been a bit better but we had ANOTHER kids birthday party on the weekend (cheerios, sausage rolls and birthday cake are waaay to tempting) and a big dinner for Father's Day yesterday.

I did do 3 walks, 1 strength session and 1 pilates class though, so that is 5 workouts for the week - not too shabby.

I'm settling in to the new job quite well, but doing a fair bit of unnecessary snacking. Hopefully once handover is complete and I'm on my own, I'll be too busy to mindlessly eat.
